The film begins with William, played by Matt Damon, and Tovar, played by Pedro Pascal, surviving a treacherous journey through the Gobi Desert. They stumble upon the Great Wall of China and witness an army of soldiers battling against a horde of monstrous creatures known as the Tao Tei.
Captured by the Chinese soldiers, William and Tovar soon realize the true purpose of the Great Wall: to defend China from the Tao Tei attacks. The duo encounters General Shao, played by Zhang Hanyu, and Strategist Wang, played by Andy Lau, who lead the Chinese forces.
William, impressed by the Chinese warriors' skill and determination, decides to join them in their fight against the Tao Tei. As the battles unfold, William and Tovar prove their worth by helping devise strategies and fighting alongside the Chinese soldiers.
Throughout the film, the characters uncover the mystery behind the Tao Tei and their origins. They learn that the creatures are unleashed upon China every 60 years by a queen who controls them from within. The queen intends to use the captured black powder to strengthen her forces and lay waste to the world beyond China.
In a climactic showdown, William, General Shao, and their allies launch a daring plan to infiltrate the queen's lair and defeat her. With the help of explosive devices and a powerful magnet, they succeed in destroying the queen and ending the Tao Tei threat.
"The Great Wall" showcases the power of unity, as characters from different cultures and backgrounds come together to protect China and preserve the world from a formidable enemy.
